Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Mother's Day

We went to the early church service this morning then headed to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, about 15 miles west of Denver (42 miles from our apartment). Red Rocks is a natural formation of red rocks jutting out at different angles from the foothills of the Rockies. In 1941, the City of Denver carved an amphitheater into the side of one of the formations and today it is one of the most popular spots for outdoor concerts, weddings, graduations, as well as Sunrise service on Easter morning. You can see from theWe spent Mother's Day afternoon at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO about 15 miles photos that it is also a very popular place with the fitness freaks who run across each row from top to bottom! Look at the skyline on the third picture. You can see the outline of downtown Denver from that vantage point.

We had eaten so many donuts in Sunday School that we weren't hungry for lunch until we arrived at Red Rocks. We were delighted to discover that they had a very nice restaurant that was offering a lavish Sunday buffet complete with complimentary Mimosa's! Alas, we ate so much that we could not take advantage of any of the trails on the hillside behind the amphitheatre. So we returned to our humble abode and promptly took a nap!
